The dream of the fake technology worker is to find some little piece of the fake thing that might be real and hope that somehow reaches the world of the real. Or perhaps some day "quantum computing" will become real. My guess is that "quantum computing" will keep "advancing" but it will remain useless for any serious definition of "utility". It is very weird, the situation we are in now, and I don't think we talk about that enough. I tried very hard to find a job in literally anything that's not a stupid waste of time or a war crime, and it's not possible. No one in the "real economy" will hire me. And no path appears to turn my real work into anything that can feed the infinite parking meter of life in this evil society. So it's work on pointless fake tech in a field i hate or work on pointless fake tech for the war machine or lose everything and end up with no place to live, no access to basic resources. I do not forgive the people who call life in this system "freedom".
