@doriane@post.lurk.org Ok adding my experince after a month of trying to dumb it up... So my aim was to have a phone with a tiny screen and to be a lil bit clunky, so it's annoying to use but will still keep me connected to people. Hence, my list of requirements was signal, telegram and email, a lil bit of navigation and mp3 playing. Nice to haves were 3.5mm, battery life, all the annoying banking apps and digital ID stuff that NL makes u use. The r/dumbphone community would basically say i was basically looking for a smart phone, but this shit a scale and they are annoying. This left me with basically having to get an android phone, as KaiOs and Android Go are both lacking. So first i got a Doov R77 Pro from the very nice people at Dummy Mini (FKA Dumbdroid). https://dumbermini.com/ They make a branch of LineageOS called Dummy OS, that works on lots of cheap Android T9 phones. It is deGoogled, and you can add as many apps as u like but NOT ALL WILL WORK. All my messaging apps worked (but clunky) but banking apps didn't because something about google requiring a certain screen size to consider a device safe... Also no headphone jack. And unexpectedly the audio quality is awful. If the microphone and speakers on my old pixel 5a was UE Boom, the r77 is someone putting their phone in a cup at a party to play music.

@doriane@post.lurk.org Pt.2 However, the build quality on these things is shit. My first r77 had a battery issue meaning i got about 4 hours of battery life with minimal usage. The folks at Dummy were nice enough to send me a replacement but this one had broken keys, a blue screen and a battery that got so hot, I wouldn't take it on a plane. However, they offered me a refund or a replacement. But I decided that the r77 just doesn't have the build quality for me. So I went and got a HMD Terra M https://www.hmd.com/en_int/hmd-terra-m This thing is built like a brick and is about the size of a brick. However, it has a 3.5mm headphone jack!!! It also runs android but its meant for construction workers, so the only way to install apps is through a MDM. and the only MDM that is affordable (2.50 pm) is Microsoft intune.... It's a hassle, but after two days i got my phone set up with the apps i needed and I'm pleasantly surprised. It does everything I want my phone to do and nothing more. Call quality is way better, battery life is over a day, mp3 playing great, I can drop it from a crane and because it only has 2gb of ram, doing anything else is a pain in the neck. Also no banking apps or DigID but it has a red torch, which is pretty cool. Personally Terra is working for me, just wish it didn't need a MDM.
