There’s a lot of bars/restaurants that do.
I have literally been refused service because the only ID I had is a passport, and those barcodes wouldn’t scan into their system.
It’s Papers, please, and it’s fucking bullshit

There’s a lot of bars/restaurants that do. Seconded; it’s why I put a removable white label over the barcode on the back of my license.
