@pomegranate_stew@kind.social I mean, if people are going to do it, they're gonna do it. There are ways to get around firmware lockouts, but the average user (who this would affect most) wouldn't know or be interested in doing it. Going after the sites that offer files to print isn't effective, either - because will they stop at regulating files that print guns? What about cosplayers who want the shape, but not the functionality? Will they go after the busty babe figures next ("porn")? What about copyrighted IPs? Will Big Fidget get involved next? (Yes, it's hyperbole.) Locking down consumer printers isn't the solution. It's surveillance and data gathering. Again. Still.
