many of my anxieties about so-called AI in education snap into focus when we consider the necropolitics inherent in neoliberalism the neolib zombie eating its own corpse stumbles but doesn’t fall; there are other corpses to eat (transportation, energy, housing, etc.) but those damn pesky Workers keep blocking it. demanding fair wages? healthcare? in a cruel twist to the economic logic of the 19th/20th Centuries, it’s more profitable to kill Workers than it is to cede to their demands. enter: The Excuse. The Excuse has a facade of a reason to exist — productivity! efficiency! all of human knowledge at a simple query!— it demands you buy into it or get left behind, and you’d rather be exploited than eliminated, right? it’s real reason for adoption is exactly that fake choice. The Excuse infects our workplaces and our schools evenly so to eliminate our capacity to think/work outside of it. don’t mind the bodies littering the floor; unoptimized, irrelevant refuse. The Excuse justifies its existence only because of the logic of death and displacement setup in contemporary systems. and we love it for that. Death To The Machine
