In the search for something that isn't paint and allows me to do quick and dirty adaptations to figures for courses etc, I came across @Krita .
Wow.
Just wow.
Free, pretty intuitive (more than paint!), a whole set of features for both bitmap and vector, and a nice and helpful community. What's not to like?
