@pinskia@hachyderm.io @penguin42@mastodon.org.uk @regehr@mastodon.social there were half a dozen compiler developers working on gcc power at the IBM Rochester, MN site too. And iSeries did indeed have a team working on OX (optimizing translator) that went from the machine independent layer to the actual hardware, also at the same site.
