I mean, margins depends on a lot of factors. But ultimately it's a balance between "what I have to spend" versus "what people are willing to pay"
So a mom and pop can in theory do better or worse than a megacorp. But often times Walmart has been able to apply pressure to producers to get deals other people can't.
You'll notice that many times big box stores will now carrying model numbers you can't get elsewhere, and if that's so, it's because they've gotten a "special" version of something that they are getting at a reduced price (usually because the manufacturer couldn't mean their price point with their standard option, and had to rework it to meet that)

Yeah, I worked for Walmart and had a scanner thingy and it would tell me the profit margin and some of them were massive depending on the item, like 200-300% on some items. Most were lower than that, but still like in the 25-50% range, but even then that still isn't bad. Not sure if that factored in transport costs, though because they own their own trucks and distribution network, they are probably saving a ton on it.
