Though I can still take a look sometime soonish at two other boards from different CF-37s I have somewhere and see if the CMOS battery is located somewhere else, maybe on the rear of the board. 'Cause now I'm also curious! And yup, there's onboard RAM (those two chips between the RAM slot and the modem miniPCI card), the slot is just an expansion for extra memory. Should be compatible with PC100 SDRAM, not sure about PC133, max. 128MB per stick IIRC

The good news is that, for whatever reason, the process of taking it apart and reassembling it got me past that error and able to access the BIOS and boot menu and what-not. From there, I was able to use the original restore media to reinstall the OS, the PhoenixBIOS backup partition, drivers, etc. (Unless a mystery CMOS battery shows itself, I assume I will have to set the date most of the time I fire it up, but I can live with that if everything else works fine.) Oh, and the display is a touchscreen!
