i haven't checked rigorously but i feel like the "safe" set of characters is the latin alphabet, digits, some punctuation . , ! ? : and space. i think / and @ will also be common because of the web and email. i'd love to add ( ) " ' _ - + * ; but i bet some of those aren't available everywhere. on my keyboard Ç is mapped to S because i'm using the dvorak layout. i think the default layout is just not convenient for me, i spend way more time programming or writing in english over portuguese...
