Lately I’ve been unsure of whether YouTube has switched me to another one of the algorithms in its usual rotation, or if they’ve intentionally up-ranked “edgy” hate speech.

The usual rotation is pretty obvious - “oh hey, several successful thumbnails I have never clicked are back again.”
