Yes, decorating with the Sharpie Creative markers does help a ton. When masks look more like a style or fashion accessory, it tends to reduce negative attention. However, you might also get people stopping to give compliments or ask about it, as my spouse and I have.
Consider picking up a pack or few of 6"-8" geometric stencils on Amazon. It helps to have something to reliably fall back on without having to freehand all the time.

@azteclady@kind.social I'm tabling at an event this week where we'll be showing all kinds of ways to safely decorate masks, & the table will basically be a crafting station with all the supplies for folks to decorate their own or the Auras we supply. Markers, rubber stamps, stickers, & magnets for the filter section. Plus a bunch of chains, ribbons, bracelets, & charms for hanging off the mask straps. I really like magnets, chains, charms, & similar, because they're reusable & easy to swap to new masks.
