@atpfm@mastodon.social My high school (I graduated less than 5 years ago) had computer labs filled with iMacs. Each one was had its local storage wiped *weekly* (as did the windows machines in other labs). They all used macOS’ built in network accounts and after each reset they took about 2 minutes to re-log in for the “first” time (as opposed to seconds if you’d already logged in). All of our documents and in-app settings were preserved between resets (though iirc downloads and desktop folders were reset).

@atpfm@mastodon.social My dad also ran this same networked account system for all the desktop Macs at home back in the late ‘00s and early ‘10s and it worked just fine.
