Okay, first things first. If you DO NOT HAVE AN AMERICAN PASSPORT, DO NOT GO TO AMERICA. Don't pass go, don't collect USD 200. Just DON'T. Period, paragraph, ship the trilogy. You're on Mastodon. That makes you, in their eyes, some kind of leftist scum, AND, you're not Murkin, so, yeah, cuff'em, stuff'em, and throw'em in a concentration camp until somebody raises an alarm and causes a diplomatic incident and MAYBE you get to go home. (Anybody with enough *bank* to bribe the border guards _isn't here_, they're on X or maybe Bsky. Unless they're EU officials, in which case, they have nice red passports and can play the diplomatic get-out-of-jail-free card. Which is nice, but not for us ordinary folk.) 2/

If you DO have an American passport: Consider your options carefully. Me, I pass for white, cishet, male, disabled (which is more true than I like it), and I keep my big mouth SHUT in front of het klootzakkenwasseren... so far, it's not a big deal for me to sneak right under their noses. So far. One begins to wonder. If you DON'T have an American passport and _can get one_, now is a good time. Last I checked, the turnaround times were shockingly short. You might want it on short notice. If you have the right to a _different_ passport, GET IT. NOW. Stop what you're doing, do the relevant research, fill out the forms, go get your pictures taken, get it sent off. I'll wait. GO. NOW. (If you're Canadian heritage pretty far back, you are newly eligible for their passport. If you're Jewish and your people came out through Germany or you were otherwise provably affected by the Holocaust, you are eligible for German citizenship. Even if Germany isn't where you want to end up, that passport entitles you to be anywhere in the EU. Ireland is another place where heritage counts.) If you're American and want to say and fight? More power to you. The world needs more people that can and will stand up and fight. (And the world needs even more people that will help those front liners along.) AND... I invite you to Keep Your Options Open. There are things worth dying for... and there are _people_ worth _living_ for. I'm not judging what you do in that respect... I'm just laying all the cards down. Your draw.

@stonebear2@hachyderm.io as a trans person, the amount of terror they have as a result of me living a perfectly ordinary life is an impressive return on investment as far as terrorism goes, I suppose
