Sometimes when I'm playing a game of the card/board variety, I get more entertainment out of losing in some spectacular or unusual fashion than I would had I won. Yes, one does owe it to the other players to *try* -- there's good reason "throwing" a game is against social contract -- but a hilarious mistake can make for a more memorable play session than a solid victory. I think this would be an alien concept to some folks I've played with...
