@SuperLutheran@poa.st reminds me of a short story by Frederick Forsyth, "There are no Snakes in Ireland" >jeet exchange student scuttles to Ireland in order to work >"wow turns out manual labor is kinda though" >boss ribs him a bit >has the characteristic "you are mean to me and this place had no civilization at some point so white people should die though I want to migrate" tantrum >on leave to India self-induces a fever dream and self-suggests smuggling a venomous snake >loses track of it at D-day in accordance with their characteristic clumsiness <rest is unimportant, more structure than compelling story Didn't think about it back then but, something something old calamities resurging from unevangelized strangers, something universities starting out as minister forming institutions. Got too distracted by a story sympathetic to the hindoo not mincing around their outbursts back in the day. Talking about back in the day, the author died last year: wikipedia has him as chill and loving of his country, I guess not everyone out of the RAF was rotten; RIP.
