@Scarlov@mastodon.gamedev.place @mitten@social.lol My brother got added to a flat earther group by a friend as a joke. (He never picked up on the fact that it was a comment about his other beliefs.) Some of those people are serious -- way more of them than you would hope.

@Scarlov@mastodon.gamedev.place @mitten@social.lol It's how here in the US we ended up with a congresswoman who thinks "Jewish space lasers" are responsible for the weather, a secretary of health who thinks vaccines cause autism, and a president who thinks a viral pandemic can be fought by ingesting bleach or using hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin. And yeah, some people actually tried even the bleach and ended up in the hospital for it.
