@petafloppa@meow.social :0 now learning my opinion is a 2% opinion i feel obligated to explain I'm a game developer instead of a web developer; I've had direct experience with lua and js in basically the same role as "way to write scripts in a codebase that's primarily C++". I think there are reasons to like either or both in that role! with mildly different tradeoffs. In terms of dynamic language design, there are definitely warts in the js spec but I think modern JS has a lot going for it that other dynamic languages don't (including and especially typescript) lots of web ecosystem javascript is really really bad but the web itself is pretty good, so you can just avoid that and be happy tbh
