@jessie@mastodon.social I was half-joking about linking apparently unconnected things but that may genuinely be what I do to make sense of the world. Thinking about unrelated things creates dissonance which gets resolved when I find connections between them, like a 'diminished seventh' chord, another recent fascination... and thus another wave-function collapses. :-)

@jessie@mastodon.social The Celts believed that there are places, times and plants that may lift the veil between us and Faerie but that is dangerous, so they lit fires and danced to keep 'the underworld' at bay. Knowledge being dangerous feels like a Christian idea but it could be older. 'Wise women' mostly tried to do good but were feared. Is it 'Fear of the unknown' or 'fear of finding out'? "Ignorance is bliss" feels topical today.
