Whatsapp is not an entirely encrypted messaging app. It encrypts only the content of the messages which lets them claim to be one. But in reality this is the only piece Whatsapp encrypts. It has all the metadata, for example, such as who calls whom and when with exact timestamps, open and available. Whatsapp can and will lead the police, government, cartels, or whatever to you from one of your contacts.

@jdoe@freeradical.zone @Mer__edith@mastodon.world @WhatsApp@mastodon.social I completely left #whatsapp as soon as I found #SignalApp but I wish I could convince more of my friends to be on it. I just text them using #Textra (knowing it's insecure). Just finished reading the book "Permanent Record" (twice). I guess I don't need to say more.
