@xavier@sunny.garden I'm not very deep into that, but for a start I can recommend Siddhartha Mukherjee's "The Gene: An Intimate History", which is a very good overview of the history of genetics. Also Robert Sapolsky has some fascinating lectures about biology to be found online.
