@mike805@noc.social the opec story's as much about the cartel as anything else but it covers things like economics of uae v saudi the saudis have to fund their tourist vision, uae have a more modest idea of how to ensure they've done all they can to make the best of what looks like demand that may well peter out before reserves're exhausted immediate demand is a seperate issue to decarbonization strategies and europe have to take care of immediate need that's been screwed by the changing relationship with the us (who objected to and obstructed the nordstream projects). on top of that there's existing infrastructure covering the northsea fields – it's not wholly new investment to exploit market opporunities
