Here in the UK wedding rings are on the left hand like Canada.

I always thought there was a practical aspect to the tradition: for the right-handed majority, the ring is out of the way. Wristwatches are both an interesting parallel and contrast at the same time: even back when they were something mostly only looked at rather than interacted with, they were always worn on the non-dominant wrist.
