Icons on desktop are actually useful. It’s much easier to find an icon on a desktop than on a dock, because you have two dimensions instead of one. And it’s infinitely easier to find an icon and click on it than to type a name of a program into Dmenu. But yes, icons do look bad. I would actually like to have icons on my desktop, but I can’t find a program to show icons that’s suitable for me.
