@steaphan@indieauthors.social absolutely not. In fact, I’m in this position now, but I’d rather delay, waiting until I find the right actor(s) than to let AI do it.

  • @aronsilver@indieauthors.social A long time ago, I looked into Google Play Books "free" AI narration, where at the time, they said authors could bring to any other audiobook platform. I also priced audio narrators. The cost would have blown my whole publishing budget and made the positive cash flow timeline very gloomy. So, years have passed--no audio books. With me it comes to a: human-creator philosophy vs. narration quality vs. cost decision. 1) I am strongly pro-human-creator 2) Quality is important, but anyone who has listened to a lot of audiobooks knows--there are great narrators and not-so-great. #1 aside, AI can fill the slot for okay quality--but, so far, will not come close to seasoned human narrator. 3) AI narration cost varies, but in the worst case (most expensive AI narrations tools), I have seen is at least 1/2 the cost of a human narrator.
