Hey reminder that the SS started off as a special subunit of the Brownshirts, the NSDAP's (Nazi party's) paramilitary wing, and were founded specifically to be Hitler's personal bodyguards/security to protect him at rallies, and only became an official, publicly government-sanctioned force in the late 1930s, when it's multiple branches, including the Gestapo and Waffen-SS, had been in wide-reaching action for several years already. https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/20/politics/elon-musk-private-security-deputized-marshals-service/index.html
