@leanderlindahl@mastodon.social @carl@heath.social @bike4climate@mastodon.nu @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu @HennaVirkkunen@ec.social-network.europa.eu I have always been thinking that we need a UN backed, controlled , and funded social network. If the UN can't do it, then maybe the EU can. I don't see how this couldn't be a public service.

@taxalot@framapiaf.org It would have to start with the EU as a sufficiently wealthy and coherent entity with experience to such large scale projects, but be open to any country that shares common values and vision on how those could translate into modern digital news dissemination. It feels that this is no longer a question of this being vaguely "desirable". It is an existential question and litmus test: Does Europe have a pulse? @leanderlindahl@mastodon.social @carl@heath.social @bike4climate@mastodon.nu @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu @HennaVirkkunen@ec.social-network.europa.eu

@taxalot@framapiaf.org I want to agree but the problem would be the same – centralized social media is always vulnerable for those in control. Fediverse would be much more resilient since there is not one large owner that can throw it over at will. @leanderlindahl@mastodon.social @carl@heath.social @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu @HennaVirkkunen@ec.social-network.europa.eu
