A rare update, with apologies… Q: Where is Sable? Why isn’t she posting? A: Sable is still here. Very busy, very tired, and pacing herself. Please let me explain… After months of testing, last August my wife was diagnosed with PSP, progressive supranuclear palsy, which is a rare, incurable, and always terminal neurodegenerative illness. Her balance and her speech have deteriorated greatly. I am now her 24/7 caregiver and cannot leave her side for more than an hour. It’s a lot. Meanwhile, my transition has uncovered something I hadn’t expected. For me, it’s not about how I present, which is a relief because I’ve never wanted to spend much time or energy on that. I would rather be inconspicuous, something that’s already hard when I’m 6 foot 2, 300 pounds, in my mid-70s, and have a strong English accent—let alone if decide to be femme! My transition instead is only about how I feel, and it doesn’t matter to me if people can’t see that. So I’m still here, enjoying being able to feel a full raft of emotions for the first time in my life, and understanding what it is to be a woman for the first time in my life. I’m grateful to all my female friends who accept me as I am: as one of them, and not as some failed in-between.
