In Germany we call it „zahnloser Tiger“ (teethless tiger), because there are regulations, without default penalties (like for instance a speed ticket) and each and every case requires an individual investigation (maybe even a court trial), it’s only punishable if you/your data personally suffered (if I just observe there is something wrong nobody cares), and the prosecutors (if we can call them so) are underfunded and understaffed. The idea is great. What we have is a step into a good direction, but it’s a long road to go…

    @lennybacon@infosec.exchange @rotnroll666@mastodon.social sure it's not perfect, but tbh i'm not sure what part of the world i'd like to swap places with right now when it comes to being able to retrieve personal data from companies and instituations. and yes, still a long way to go... but as we know from running/hiking (coming back to garmin), it's all about that next step :)
