@markisevil@mastodon.ie That argument seems to assume that capitalists conspire together - which may be true. The counter-argument is that if there's a profit to be made from housing people, it only takes one capitalist to break from the cartel.

@DrHyde@fosstodon.org @markisevil@mastodon.ie No it doesn't, because that "one" capitalist would have to possess enough property to house all homeless (and property is not an infinite resource), and they would only help in those specific cases where they do find profit. Lastly they would provide the worst housing accomodations they could get away with. If offering a box to live in was profitable, someone would do it. In fact, looking at Hong Kong, this is more or less what is being done.
