  @karmalakas@mastodon.social someone at Microsoft will have been paid to sit down and work out if this will still be a profitable move after the consequences that will come their way in a year or four for doing this. The fact they've done it means that person gave it the thumbs-up. Clearly, the threat of that sort of fine is just a cost of doing business and not any sort of deterrent, and I hope future consumer protection legislation works this out and is written accordingly.
