@2003MugishaPhocit@mastodon.social @wdlindsy@toad.social for many reasons. For one, medieval Scandinavia was very sparsely populated, and it's a harsh, Arctic environment. You have to be self-sufficient in the Arctic. And if you have a savior who is wanting to save you consistently and tell you how to do things, that doesn't create self-sufficiency. That is probably the biggest reason why ancient pagans were against the Messiah thing.
