Some nights when I can't sleep
and every cell of my body screams
the words I hear myself say are: I'm not gay
And I would kiss people from any possible gender
and in my light even the moon is queer
but still from time to time the thought says: I'm not gay
But what I mean
is what you mean
To some people who used to love me gay means:
'there's something wrong with you
you're so broken beyond fixing and by lack of repair the best thing we know is to hate you'
And to those people I want to say:
I'm not gay.
But you are, until you change your definition.
#PoetRi written in march 2024. 'I'm not gay' was an echolalia i had for many years, so i would randomly say that sentence several times every day. Shortly after I wrote this poem it shifted, and now my echolalia is 'i'm so gay'.
