  • @menelion@dragonscave.space I can't remember off the top of my head, but it is one that you deffinitly get if you take pictures on IPhones lately. it is a very weird format too. most converts won't do it if that tells you anything. let me see if I have the web site I have been using in my favorites, as that would have it in the name of the site.

    @menelion@dragonscave.space @JamminJerry@mastodon.stickbear.me It's called HEIC. It's composed of a single frame of HEVC (H265) video, stored as a still image. The library for working with it is libheif, but it's still patent involved and I know Windows requires you to actually buy the codec sometimes. Or maybe libheif somehow got around that I don't rightly know. Libheif also supports avif, av1 image file, which is the same thing but with an AV1 video frame. And of course there's also webp, which is a single frame of webm video, probably VP8 or VP9.
