I'm reminded of this legendary post from years ago when Dropbox was first released (to be fair, I think he was just young and clueless)

Back then, people really underestimated what a game-changer it would be to simply store and share files. My hope is that this would likewise seem like a quaint hill to climb in the future

@cypnk@masto.hackers.town *bless*, I'd not seen that before. That's adorable. and yeah, I live in hope that it will in fact get easier. I think with the rise of VPS it *has* -- I remember looking into it about, gosh, fifteen years ago? and just being absolutely disheartened because there was no fucking way I could set up what I wanted with the expertise level I had at the time.
