He makes the devils advocate (Mephistopheles) say the following in his exposition: "Ich bin ein Teil von jener Kraft, die stets das Böse will und doch das Gute schafft" - (Rough translation my own:) - I am part of that force which always tries the worst yet achieves the good.

@angusm@mastodon.social I am referencing this because for a good scholar, imo the point is not to disregard work we disagree with, but rather interact with it from the "what if this were true" angle. And, while painful and, mostly pointless, interacting with the whole AGI stuff *can* be quite enlightening. I have revised my position a couple times these days, but I agree with Cory that it's neither statistics NOR symbolics - because then we'd already have found the solution. 2/2
