@samueljohnson@mstdn.social yeah, I should have split them into pairs earlier this year. These are only a year old, and I wanted goslings mostly from their parents (push back the inbreeding problem a few years), but my old gander Samson started a slow decline and died last week. He is much missed.
Next year I'll split them up earlier, and these youngsters will be proper adults. Too late for this year.

@solar_chase@mastodon.green Just picked up a couple of chickens (Copper Black Marans, future layers of dark chocolate eggs). Chosen bc a neighbour has hatched some, will have a rooster later this yr. My Barred Rock rooster is no longer up to breeding -- bit unsteady on his feet. I hope we aren't going to need to keep them apart but I suppose it's more likely than not. He was the only fertile egg in his incubator batch so I was Dad for a while. (Tame w a lot of "Wait for meeeee"). Barely get the time of day now
