At least the male transphobes probably have their fragile masculinity threatened by their fear that they too could be a woman, or feminine. The female transphobes are probably the women who have been taught that their femininity is a precious commodity (like virginity) which must be guarded. Yuck. Transphobia is driven by fear, stemming from a lack of understanding and also by clinging to outdated societal norms.
