@emsquared@social.coop @avavsystems@mastodon.world @obsoletemediauk@mastodon.world The Akai MG was originally going to use beta shells I think, but they weren't able to license it, plus I suspect it risked people just using beta tapes with a formulation optimised for video instead of audio. The decks haven't aged well and have a lot of plastic part failures from what I hear

@emsquared@social.coop @obsoletemediauk@mastodon.world I liked the Video 8 one - DTRS. Thought it was far superior to ADAT The Akai one was like U-Matic, the spools ran in opposite directions. Looked most odd
