Meeting WCAG criteria is a floor, not a ceiling; keeping sites usable in user agents set to a larger font-size is a worthwhile goal.
Users can already set their font-size in desktop browsers but sites often have problems when they use it. Maybe when the capability is standard on mobile devices, web developers will address it more.

@cwilcox808@c.im Yeah that's a very good point. It's my hope that authors will think about it more by using the meta tag. I just think it would suck for you if you've increased the font size in your OS settings and then every website you go on is making you scroll horizontally. Sometimes it will be unavoidable, but I think general browsing should be possible without horizontal scroll.
