@Shufei@mastodon.sdf.org considering the diversity of the area sephardic jews have primarily inhabited over the past 500 years, which spans France, Spain, Portugal, Mexico, Algeria, Morrocco, Egypt, etc etc, I think the way that Zionists claim that this is "sephardic hebrew" is itself an orientalization of Sephards as a model of pure, un-yiddishized hebrew (early Zionists put de-yiddishization at the very top of their priorities, and has a concept of the new Hebrew Man to replace it, based on their oriental fantasies of sephards as original Hebrews). The truth is that among yiddishkeit, yiddish is supposed to mean the Jewish vernacularization of national tounges, and so the yiddish most Sephards spoke was what academics call JudeoArabic, which like other yiddish vernaculars is largely a result of writing the national mother tounge under the constraints of the phonetics of the hebrew alphabet. But just as Arabs in Egypt and Morrocco may have difficulty understanding each other, the same goes for sephards from Egypt and Morrocco. Isralien Hebrew is more like the way sephards speak, but if you take the weird confabulations of non-religious people learning hebrew for supposed national interests, in a void without much relation to the religion and resentful of the hachareidim
