@_jimnelson_@mastodon.social Arguello was the first in a planned set of renaming the north-south Avenues to alphabetical names like they did with the lettered east-west ones, hence beginning with A. The rest of the project was abandoned.
At least some of the duplicate names between the Presidio and the rest of the city are merely continuations of the same street. But the ones that aren't, are particularly confusing.
And, of course, neither Lincoln Boulevard nor Lincoln Way are near Lincoln Park, which itself was the western terminus of Lincoln Highway (neither of which were named after the other).
