kinda heartbroken to see some of the prominent friend 2 friend networks like freenet (and i2p if you count it) give in fully to integrating ai in the code and other aspects. i've always been fascinated by the idea of making a walled garden for your friends, following cathedral type workflows for projects, etc. the closest a project has come to realizing this i've found to be keybase (specially with the lovely git hosting), and apparently that wasn't even truly decentralized. it's also been completely abandoned since zoom bought the company. sigh me and my friends also tried retroshare through our own vpn (headscale instance) for a while and it was fun but the app has a lot of quirks... plus at this point i'd rather be able to separate most of what it comes with into separate apps/modules/sites hosted in said vpn. which i guess is the best way to do a f2f type thing these days but it wouldn't be fully p2p would it? freenet (i guess now called hyphanet and half abandoned while the shitty ai one is called freenet somehow) comes pretty close to being a fun f2f thing too. but you can't do much fun stuff on top of it, it's all static sites. you wouldn't be able to do something like a friend-only decentralized git network there i don't think, not with a lot more effort than its worth at least are there more fun toys to play around with the idea of making a completely private walled garden for friends?
