I posted about this before, that data centres are increasingly considering burning gas instead of connecting to the electricity grid. This means of course they will increase emissions even if the grid decarbonises.
The problem is much worse than I thought. According to the UK gas networks, more than a hundred data centre projects enquired about direct access to the gas network. We're talking about gigawatts of energy from gas.

@wim_v12e@scholar.social yikes, that's really bad news. I thought there was a global shortage of grid-scale gas turbines and the factories that make them, though?

@wim_v12e@scholar.social if they're connected to the gas network and the electricity price is still dictated by the gas price, could this also increase the cost of electricity?
