#Esperanto in Japan has an extraordinary history. There is even a Shinto-based new religion (Ōmoto) in which L.L. Zamenhof, the creator of Esperanto in 1887, is worshipped as a Shinto god (kami). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oomoto
