@sgued@pouet.chapril.org looking at https://github.com/trussed-dev/littlefs2-sys/blob/45e25a4dfd381d96ccfc3712bab9ad3630cdc57e/build.rs, I can't really suggest a better alternative because as you say littlefs2 is not something that your system's package manager is gonna pull in. We need to improve our tooling to programmatically tag non-rust dependencies. A git submodule as you use it at least gives a chance to analyze what you're doing and compare that against known issues.
