@TheyOfHIShirts@glammr.us The thing I'm really concerned about as a working public librarian is that I think most librarians still treat each book challenge as if it is authentic and worthy of going through the process. And this may be true if there's a parent in the community that has a concern even if it's kind of a bullshit concern (homophobic, transphobic, "there is swearing" &c.) but it's absolutely not true if it's a coordinated national campaign.

    @jessamyn@glammr.us The must difficult part about fighting off the national coordinated campaigns is that they're very good at astroturfing, and they can often find a local willing to do their dirty work for them, which defeats all the work that's been done to tighten up processes so that only locals and cardholders can initiate the procedures. There are ways that we can match their contempt for us with contempt of our own, but it requires the entire chain to be on board with it.
