Myself, I have firmly belonged to the school of "Control's place is in the third row from bottom" for many years. However, since I often have my left hand busy, I also map Pause to the whole C-x keymap. I also map F12 to `exchange-point-and-mark' (C-x C-x) and practice some other heresies as well. #Emacs #KeyBindings @paniash@mstdn.social @screwlisp@gamerplus.org @tarsius@fosstodon.org @minad@mastodon.world @oantolin@mathstodon.xyz

Prot recently wrote why he personally don't map capslock to ctrl. https://protesilaos.com/codelog/2026-05-04-emacs-keyboard-ergonomics/ Basically, he wants to use both hands with both Ctrl keys, to divide the load on his pinky. He's actually remapping Alt to Ctrl, so that he can use his (stronger) thumb for Ctrl. I never bothered, since I never had pinky issues in 40+ of computer use. So if you remap F12 to whatever you like ... feel free to do so. That's not heresy.
