@zeblarson@hcommons.social I have no idea of programming, but in the 1990s a family friend in IT at one of the big 5 banks gave me some insight on why the reason why the banks stuck with COBOL. He said that there were people on the chain of budget approval for any wholesale change of computer program who understood COBOL but not anything newer. They didn’t want their own positions at the bank to become compromised by anyone who knew another program better than they did. So the thought of getting any budget for changing was DOA.
