If during communication - time, participants and the corresponding program or app are announced (assuming EVERYTHING is there) then THAT IS metadata. Or what do you think such data consists of? Even if you write for Heise, you should make sure that you can provide evidence of what you have written.

@noname@social.tchncs.de The point is that the participants are not announced when Signal triggers a notification. The fact that you have activated Signal (if you do) is already known to those who want to know. That is not a secret. The only new information is that there is a ping to wake up the app. That is metadata, but of very little insight.
